    Goals & Progress

    The Sustainability Program at LANL

LANL aimed and succeeded at decreasing overall energy and water consumption over the last 10 years.

These campus-level decreases are attributed to the accumulation of many facility-level efficiency measures. Each project and initiative, however small, is a step towards increasing LANL’s sustainability. In addition to individual projects, the Sustainability Program creates a Site Sustainability Report each year and tracks the energy use, water use, and greenhouse gas emissions of the Lab.

LANL’s goals are influenced by Federal Codes, Presidential Executive Orders, and DOE or NNSA orders, and can be in flux at times. However, LANL always strives to lower resource use, protect the environment, and save money through efficiency improvements.
